Thinking about Tinting

as the weeks fly past, we try to keep up with everything happening around us. casadelilly had an amazing time last weekend at a hens sparty, which was attended by 13 wonderful ladies. we provided the high tea, cocktails, together with a full manicure and pedicure station and eyelash and eyebrow tinting. It was great fun. (Unfortunately because of the whole privacy issue, we wont be posting any pictures of the event here.)

we recently introduced one new item at the hens sparty, which is tinting. we have realised how essential tinting can be. it changes the entire look and definition of your face, gives that great colour and depth to your eyes. in some cases, it even replaces the mascara, especially if you swim alot or go to the beach often.

to be on the safe side, tinting is best done by a professional and it is better to use a proper tinting kit, rather then the do-it-yourself boxes you get at the chemist.

Eyelash tinting is a process wherein your eyelashes are dyed to make them look darker. Depending on your skin type and hair color, you can achieve eyelash colors, including black, blue, shades of brown, grey or whatever color best fits your complexion.

Eyelash tinting will benefit people that are sensitive to make-up, people who are active in sports (especially swimming) and people who have no time to apply make-up daily. This process is also ideal for people who wear contact lenses because they don’t have to suffer putting on mascara any longer.

The process involves a quick and non-surgical procedure using vegetable dye as tint. Compared to putting on mascara, the effects of eyelash tinting is very natural. For this reason, most salons and spas cannot lighten the color of your natural eyelashes.

Before any lash tinting procedure, you should attend a consultation with the therapist. At least two day before your eyelash tinting treatment, you need to undergo a patch test to ensure there are no allergic reactions or sensitivities to a product. Then, your therapist will recommend the best color that could fit your skin type and hair color to produce the best results.

A typical eyelash tinting takes around fifteen minutes. Because of this, tinting your eyelash can fit into busiest of schedules. Once you arrive at the salon, the therapist will place cotton under your closed eyes and then apply a small amount of vegetable dye onto your eyelashes. After ten minutes, the dye is removed with water. The results could last around four to six weeks.

In addition, home tinting kits should be avoided, unless you are a trained professional. This is because not only can the treatment be messy, it could also yield results that are not as effective as those done in the salons are. Eyelash tinting done by a professional can provide amazing and long lasting results.

Time sure has flown, and summer is nearly over. We were 'closed' over most of December and everyone went on holiday again in January (with the multitude of public holidays) so here we are, nearly 3 months later.

i have been busy, but that is no excuse to not updating what we have been up to lately.

about 3 weeks ago, we had a customer for our Spring Fling special but at the SkyCity Grand Hotel. it went well and but it also showed us that hotels recognise the portable massage table and assumptions were made straight away. it was quite funny actually.

apart from that, both Steph and I have been busy with everything else, but will endeavour to bring more beauty and spa ideas to you. the latest news would be the endorsement deal im trying to work out with Alathea: Dead Sea Beauty Products at the moment, and hopefully by mid-November, casa de lilly will be endorsing Dead Sea Products in all our treatments. (i will do a write up later on the wonders of Dead Sea Products)

for now, i'll leave you with why it's beneficial to have a facial at least once in two weeks, if not more!

Getting a facial is one of the best investments you can make in yourself.
That's the advice of aestheticians, experts trained in skin-care and to provide
facials. Not only can a facial make your skin look better, it's also a great way
to clean out pores which are beleaguered by weather, pollution and stress.

A lot of us are investing in our faces these days. The net result is often
softened wrinkles, better skin tone, brighter complexions, fewer break-outs,
improved firmness, and, relaxation. Defying Mother Nature is big business; the
skin-care products industry is expected to grow as much as 40 percent this year.
Last year, $1.4 billion was spent at salons in skin-care products alone,
according to Kathy Shingara, director of the Institute of Aesthetic Arts and
Sciences (IAAS) in Southbury, Conn.

"Skin-care is the fastest-growing portion of the beauty industry
today," said Shingara. "This I know."

As more baby-boomers search for ways to turn back the clock, and
encourage their daughters to begin good skin-care early, facials are an
affordable way to do something special for yourself. Averaging about $50 for 45
minutes to an hour, facials are a lot less expensive than the more serious
chemical peels, laser procedures and botox injections. At some high-priced
salons, however, facials can run $100 and more.

Even some dermatologists agree that facials can help. But doctors,
somewhat less enthusiastic about the anti-aging power of facials, advise you to
be sure the person doing your facial is well trained. No picking or digging for
blackheads, says Dr. Meryl Joerg, a New York City dermatologist and member of
the American Academy of Dermatology. "Don't ever do anything that would break
the skin."

Shingara, who has been teaching aestheticians for more than 30 years,
says that facials shouldn't break the skin. "The basis of a good facial is to
reestablish balance in the skin and prevent aging," she said. The best ones are
always customized to a woman's specific skin needs.

In a good facial, expect the aesthetician to first analyze your skin and
decide what type of products to use. Next, she'll do a deep cleansing. Good
cleansing rids the face of makeup residue, as well as wipes away pollution.

Next comes exfoliation to get dead cells off. The trend today is in
non-abrasive exfoliation, products that penetrate into the pores without any
scrubbing. "When you keep as many dead cells off as possible, new cells can find
their way to the top and you'll look better," said Shingara. Exfoliation also
helps restore lost moisture. Dry skin doesn't regenerate itself well, she said.
Toner is the next step, usually sprayed in a fine mist to restore balance to
the skin. A toner shouldn't take the place of a good cleanser, however, its
purpose isn't to remove residue that you should have gotten off with your
cleanser.

Depending on what's going on with your face, the next step would be a
special treatment. Oily skin would have different products applied than dry
skin. Someone might be fighting blackheads, while another may be plagued with
redness. Sometimes gentle steam is applied to help the skin absorb the products.
Alphahydroxy (AHA) products may be used during this step for a glycolic facial.
AHAs are great for helping to regenerate the skin.

Ah, the massage, that comes next. The aesthetician will usually apply a
cream to moisturize and nourish your face and massage it in for a few
minutes.

The mask, usually a clay mixture, then soaks up excess oil as well as
brightens and tones the skin. There are many types of masks available today.

Application of a day or night cream is the finishing touch. Day creams
protect and moisturize, night creams nourish.

You should see a difference in your skin right away. It should appear
brighter, firmer and freshened. A facial shouldn't make you break out; if that's
happening, it's not the right product for you.

Waxing Poetic Lyrics (pun intended!)

Sometimes word gets around so much faster when people talk about it. The biggest (and cheapest) form of advertising is people talking about it. It also helps if the product (or service) is super-duper fantastic. What i noticed most is that people can wax poetic lyrics about something they absolutely love.

"It was super-not-pain!"

"Un-fcuking-believable!!"

"Trust me!!! Just try it!!!"

looks painful eh? in actual fact, its nothing like what was experienced or shown in the movie. (trust me!!!! ) It should be something you are very sure you want to try, (and not dared to try) and once you've been waxed, you'll never go back to the usual methods again. Really!!

Waxing is a method of temporary hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

Waxing is accomplished by spreading a wax combination thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair and dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth. Another method of waxing involves hot wax, a soft wax directly applied to the skin. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This waxing method is very beneficial to people who have sensitive skin.

New hair growth in waxed areas is soft and fine, not sharp and coarse like shaved hair. After repeated waxing for areas like the eyebrows and lower legs, hair regrowth is less common and, in some cases, hair will never regrow.

This is a quick update. We now have hard copies of our price-lists and are able to mail them out to you as well. Just send us an email with your name and address and we'll post it to you. (dont you love snail mail sometimes)

Alternatively, we also can email our price lists (and they are not huge versions, but easier to load and wont eat into your memory space)

It's been a good 2 weeks so far. We have been busy with printing and all admin related issues. Hopefully, by the end of September, our events department (haha, sounds very posh eh?) will be up and running. So far, we have finalised our version of beauty parties. Spa(rties) are fantastic for birthdays, corporate functions, girls night in, hen nights/days, just for fun and even before a big night out. Let us know if you want more details on Spa(rties).

What is massage?

Massage is a "hands-on" therapy in which muscles and other soft tissues of the body are manipulated to improve health and well-being. Varieties of massage range from gentle stroking and kneading of muscles and other soft tissues to deeper manual techniques. Massage has been practiced as a healing therapy for centuries in nearly every culture around the world. It helps relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and evoke feelings of calmness. Although massage affects the body as a whole, it particularly influences the activity of the musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.

How does massage work?

When a practitioner massages soft tissue, electrical signals are transmitted both to the local area and throughout the body. These signals help heal damaged muscle, stimulate circulation, clear waste products via the lymphatic system, boost the activity of the immune system, reduce pain and tension, and induce a calming effect. They may also enhance a general sense of well-being by stimulating the release of endorphins (natural pain-killers and mood elevators) and reducing levels of certain stress hormones.

What is massage good for?

In general, massage is believed to support healing, boost energy, reduce recovery time after an injury, ease pain, and enhance relaxation, mood, and well-being. In the workplace, massage has been shown to melt away stress and enhance mental alertness.

In addition, mothers and newborns also appear to benefit from massage. Mothers trained to massage their infants often feel less depressed and have a better emotional bond with their babies.
